Position Overview
Fifth grade at NDA plays an important role in helping students transition from the elementary years toward the increased independence and expectations of middle school. Students deepen their academic skills while also developing organization, responsibility, and confidence as learners.
We are looking for an educator who can balance strong academic instruction with relationship-centered teaching. The ideal candidate enjoys helping students take greater ownership of their learning while continuing to build foundational skills across subject areas.
Responsibilities include:
- Design and implement a comprehensive and differentiated curriculum aligned with California standards
- Support students in developing strong skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and critical thinking
- Foster a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes collaboration and responsibility
- Utilize a variety of instructional approaches including projects, discussion, and hands-on learning
- Track and analyze student progress using a variety of assessment tools
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families
- Collaborate with grade-level and middle school colleagues to support the transition into middle school
- Contribute to the broader elementary program and school community
Requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience preferred
- Teaching credential
- Strong understanding of upper elementary curriculum and learning progressions
- Experience differentiating instruction for diverse learners
- Strong classroom management and relational teaching skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Comfort integrating technology into instruction
- Willingness to reflect, adapt, and grow professionally
- Preferred qualifications include experience with project-based learning, interdisciplinary teaching, or middle school transition programs.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
