St. Joseph the Worker School – Fourth Grade Self-Contained Classroom Teacher
St. Joseph the Worker School is seeking a full-time Fourth Grade Self-Contained Classroom Teacher who is committed to the mission of Catholic education and dedicated to forming the whole child academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally.
The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic or an individual who wholeheartedly supports and embraces the Catholic mission, values, and teachings of the school. The teacher will create a nurturing, structured, and academically rigorous classroom environment in which students are challenged to grow as learners and encouraged to live as disciples of Christ.
The Fourth Grade Teacher will teach a self-contained class and will be responsible for providing instruction in the core academic subjects while integrating Catholic faith formation throughout the school day.
Essential Responsibilities
Catholic Identity and Faith Formation
- Support and actively promote the Catholic mission, philosophy, and values of St. Joseph the Worker School.
- Model Christian discipleship through personal example, professionalism, compassion, integrity, and respect.
- Integrate Catholic teachings, Scripture, prayer, and the virtues into daily classroom life and academic instruction.
- Lead students in daily prayer and prepare students to participate meaningfully in Mass and other school liturgical celebrations.
- Foster a classroom culture rooted in the Gospel and the school’s commitment to being Knights Rooted in Christ.
- Help students understand that their academic gifts and talents are opportunities to serve God and others.
- Partner with families in the faith formation and education of their children.
Academic Instruction
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religion.
- Develop clear learning objectives and provide instruction that is appropriately rigorous, differentiated, and developmentally responsive.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, including direct instruction, guided practice, collaborative learning, independent practice, discussion, inquiry, and hands-on learning.
- Provide appropriate support and enrichment based on individual student needs.
- Establish consistent classroom routines, procedures, and expectations that maximize instructional time.
- Integrate technology purposefully to enhance instruction and student learning.
- Provide meaningful opportunities for students to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and independence.
- Maintain high academic expectations while providing appropriate scaffolding and support.
Assessment and Student Progress
- Regularly assess student understanding through formative and summative assessments.
- Use student data to inform instructional planning and identify areas requiring intervention, remediation, or enrichment.
- Maintain accurate records of student achievement, assignments, grades, and progress.
- Communicate student progress clearly and consistently with families.
- Collaborate with support staff and school leadership regarding students who require additional academic or behavioral support.
- Participate in the school’s assessment and data-analysis processes.
Classroom Environment and Student Formation
- Create a safe, welcoming, organized, and Christ-centered classroom environment.
- Establish clear behavioral expectations and consistently implement school policies and procedures.
- Teach and model appropriate Christian behavior, responsibility, respect, self-control, and conflict resolution.
- Encourage students to take ownership of their learning, choices, relationships, and responsibilities.
- Support the development of students’ social-emotional skills and self-regulation.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and follow all Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Virtus child-safety requirements and protocols.
- Supervise students responsibly during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, assemblies, Mass, field trips, and other assigned duties.
Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, school leadership, and support personnel.
- Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, grade-level collaboration, and schoolwide initiatives.
- Communicate professionally, respectfully, and proactively with parents and guardians.
- Attend required school events, meetings, liturgies, professional development, and other assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain a professional relationship with students, families, colleagues, and parish community members.
- Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to contribute to the life and mission of the school beyond the classroom.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student, family, and school matters.
- Complete required documentation, lesson plans, grades, report cards, and other administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.
- Support school policies, procedures, and initiatives consistently.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; degree in Education or a related field preferred.
- Valid California teaching credential or eligibility for appropriate California credentialing preferred.
- Elementary teaching experience preferred; fourth-grade experience is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of elementary instructional practices, curriculum, assessment, and classroom management.
- Commitment to Catholic education and willingness to support the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
- Strong communication, organization, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students and families.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet a range of academic and learning needs.
- Proficiency with educational technology and willingness to continue developing instructional technology skills.
- Successful completion of required Archdiocese of Los Angeles background screening, fingerprinting, Virtus training, and other mandated child-safety requirements.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
