Angelus

For generations, Catholics across America paused at the sound of church bells to pray the Angelus, a simple devotion honoring the moment when the Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would become the Mother of Jesus. Immigrant families, farmers in their fields, laborers in growing cities, and parish communities from coast to coast united in this prayer, entrusting their work, hopes, and hardships to God. As we reflect on the faith of those who helped shape our nation, the Angelus invites us to follow their example—pausing amid the busyness of daily life to remember that Christ is present among us and that every moment can be offered to Him.

V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with you!
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your
womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R. Be it done unto me according to your word.

Hail Mary . . .

V. And the Word was made Flesh.
R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary . . .

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:

Pour forth we beseech you, O Lord, your grace into our hearts, that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ your Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection.

Through the same Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

Today, we are invited to continue this tradition of faith. Consider setting an alarm at noon, praying the Angelus with your family, or pausing for a moment of gratitude during your workday. As we remember those who helped shape our nation and our faith, may their witness inspire us to place our own lives and our country in the Heart of Jesus.
