Honrar a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe cada diciembre ha sido una tradición que ha perdurado a lo largo de generaciones en toda la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles – desde la Procesión y Misa en el Este de Los Ángeles hasta la celebración de Las Mañanitas en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles en la víspera de su festividad, y las reuniones de madrugada para cantarle a la Virgen en su día festivo. Nos alegra anunciar una nueva forma en que nuestra comunidad de fe puede celebrar a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe usando los talentos que Dios les ha dado – nuestro 2do Concurso Annual en honor a la Virgen de Guadalupe.

Invitamos a participantes que están en la Escuela Secundaria (High School) entre las edades de 14-17 años en la Arquidiócesis a mostrar sus talentos cantando una serenata a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. El concursante ganador(a) será elegido para cantar en vivo durante la celebración de Las Mañanitas en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles en la víspera de su festividad, el 11 de diciembre.

Honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe every December has been a time-honored tradition spanning generations throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles – from the Procession & Mass in East LA to the Mañanitas celebration at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on the eve of her feast, and early morning parish gatherings serenading the Virgin on her Feast Day! We are excited to announce a new way that our community of faith can celebrate Our Lady of Guadalupe using their God-given talents – our 2nd Annual Contest in Honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

We invite participants in High School between the ages of 14-17 years old, from across the Archdiocese to showcase their talents by serenading Our Lady of Guadalupe. The top contestant will be chosen to sing live during the Las Mañanitas celebration at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on the eve of her Feast Day, December 11.

Fechas importantes:

• Fecha límite de envío: 24 de noviembre
• Anuncio del ganador: el 3 de diciembre
• Se le enviará información sobre ensayo, horario y logística del evento.

¿Qué se valorará?

• Calidad vocal y expresividad
• Tono y entonación
• Interpretación y presentación
• Claridad del video/audio
• Conexión emocional con la canción y con el espíritu de la celebración

¿Como Participar?

• Estudiantes de Escuela Secundaria (High School) en grados 9-12. Entre las edades 14-17 años.
• Participación individual únicamente. (No pueden ser duos o grupos)
• Selecciona una canción para grabar y manda por correo electrónico. Canción puede ser en Ingles o Español. (Debe ser apropiado para que un mariachi lo acompañe durante las Mañanitas en honor de la Virgen de Guadalupe.
• Audiciones solo en formato de video serán considerados. Envía tu inscripción en formato de vídeo de .mp4 o QT.
• Por favor, incluye tu nombre y escuela en tu inscripción

What will be evaluated?

• Vocal quality and expressiveness
• Pitch and intonation
• Interpretation and presentation
• Clarity of audio/video
• Emotional connection to the song and spirit of the celebration

How to enter

• High School Students in grades 9-12, ages 14-17 only.
• Participation – Individual contestants only. (No duets or groups)
• Select a song to record and send via email. Song can be in English or Spanish. (However, it must be appropriate for mariachi accompaniment and to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe)
• Only video auditions will only be allowed. Submit your entry in the form of an .mp4 or QT movie file
• Please include your name and school name with your entry

LA Catholic Teen Wins Contest to Serenade Our Lady of Guadalupe
A 16-year-old girl from Hacienda Heights is the top contestant of the very first singing competition to earn a spot in the line-up of renowned artists to serenade Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels Mañanitas Celebration on December 11. Salma Parra, a junior at Puente Hills High School, is a self-taught vocalist who was selected among dozens of entries from participants across Southern California.
