“The student and teacher recipients of the Archdiocesan High School Christian Service Award make the Catholic faith come alive in Southern California. We are grateful for them answering Jesus’ call to serve our neighbor as expressed in the gospel of Matthew 5:16: ‘Let your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.’” said Erick Rubalcava, Chief of Mission and Catholic Identity for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
This year’s graduating seniors collectively contributed more than 35,000 hours of community service, supporting hospitals, environmental programs, and nonprofit organizations throughout Los Angeles and beyond. Students served with organizations such as, Dolores Mission, Catholic Charities, Kaiser Hospital (Sunset), Castro Limon Foundation (Tijuana, Mexico), and the Ronald McDonald House to name a few. Christian service experiences are inspired by the Gospel message and linked directly to Catholic Social Teaching which is embodied in the philosophy of all Catholic Schools.
