Adopt A Family

The Adopt-A-Family Program began in 1990 at the old St. Vibiana Cathedral, this program was designed to bring the magic and spirit of Christmas to as many Skid Row families with children as possible. Today, hardships and challenges still plague families in downtown Los Angeles only the dynamics have shifted. The Adopt-A-Family Program has grown steadily, as more and more people have committed themselves to this noble goal each holiday season through an ever-expanding donor base. Through the Adopt-A-Family Program, volunteers personally visit the families to identify their individual needs as well as what the children would like for Christmas. For these families, the anticipation of a joyous Christmas celebration is a light of hope in what can be a very dark and challenging existence. Since the beginning, the Adopt-A-Family Program has helped over 13,000 families, with food, clothes, and toys.

We are yet again preparing for a successful delivery day scheduled for Saturday, December 16, 2023. This success will only be possible through the generosity of people willing to open their hearts, lend their hands and loving actions, and provide the resources necessary to make the Christmas holiday possible for those less fortunate.

Food or Toy Drive

Food is a big necessity for families. Would your school/parish/religious education/company like to contribute to providing a two week supply of food and/or toiletries to one of our families by conducting a food drive or grocery gift card drive?

Sponsor A Family: Over 400 families are in need of a sponsor

Purchasing gifts or gift cards for a family. Family profiles are provided and they have categorized clothing sizes, household goods, and wish lists. Typically when sponsoring a family, you will spend $175-$200 per family member. This varies depending on the family’s needs as well as the donor’s. Based on the family profile, each member should be receiving a complete outfit from head to toe along with a few items from the household goods list as well as a couple of items for each member from the wish list. In addition, you may also help to pay their rent, and/or utilities. Please fill out the form below and we will match you with the perfect family.

Donate Your Time: Various Volunteer Opportunities 

Provide hands-on assistance to the Adopt-A-Family Program. Come to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels and sort, organize donations, wrap presents, and pack gift boxes. Or you can help coordinate a drive for gifts or food.
