Faithful from across the Archdiocese attended annual Fiesta honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe to raise funds for historic Procession and Mass in East LA
Faithful devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe, known as Guadalupanos, from parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, gathered yesterday for the annual fundraiser celebration known in Spanish as “Gran Tardeada Guadalupana” to raise funds for the historic Procession and Mass to honor the Virgin of Guadalupe on December in East L.A on December 6.
The live entertainment included Danza de Michoacan, Señor Valentin, Ballet Folklorico of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and Solo Primos. The food and raffle prizes featured at the “Tardeada” were donated by parishes and the faithful so that all funds raised can go directly to cover the costs of the 95th East Los Angeles Procession and Mass, which is the culmination of a four-month pilgrimage of the images of the Virgin of Guadalupe and St. Juan Diego which began on August 1. The pilgrim images are visiting 70 parishes and three Catholic cemeteries throughout the Archdiocese, including the counties of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura.
Following the Tardeada, the images will make their way to Holy Innocents in Long Beach from Aug. 30-31, St. Pius X in Santa Fe Springs on Sept. 1, Sacred Heart in Compton from Sept. 2-3, St. John of God in Norwalk from Sept. 4-5, St. Felipe Neri in Lynwood from Sept. 6-7, Our Lady of Victory in Compton from Sept. 8–9, St. Rose of Lima in Maywood from Sept. 10–11, St. Linus in Norwalk from Sept. 12–13 and then they will head to Rancho Palos Verdes to visit St. John Fisher from Sept. 14–15. The Procession and Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe is the oldest religious procession in Los Angeles. It was established in 1931 by Mexican Catholics who fled persecution by the Mexican government during the Cristero War. Tens of thousands gather each year for the Annual Procession and Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
