The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has asked parishes and Catholic schools across the Archdiocese, which covers Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties, to add a special emergency collection during the month of July to assist those affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026.
The two powerful earthquakes, centered approximately 100 miles west of Caracas, have left widespread devastation and an escalating humanitarian crisis. Entire communities have been reduced to rubble, with homes, schools, hospitals, and critical infrastructure severely damaged or destroyed. Thousands of families have been displaced as rescue teams continue searching for survivors amid ongoing aftershocks. Many remain without safe shelter, clean drinking water, food, medical care, or electricity.
“When one member of the Body of Christ suffers, we all suffer,” said Sabrina Lopez, Director. The Pontifical Mission Societies, for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. “The people of Venezuela need to know that the Church stands with them. We ask the faithful throughout the Archdiocese to lift them up in prayer and to give generously so that families who have lost so much may find comfort, hope, and the support they need to rebuild their lives.”
In addition to financial assistance, the Archdiocese asks the faithful to remember the people of Venezuela in their prayers. Parish and school communities are encouraged to pray for those who have lost loved ones, those who have been injured or displaced, first responders and relief workers, and the local Church as it continues to bring comfort, hope, and healing to those affected by this tragedy.
The collections will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, the international relief agency of the Church in the United States. Those wishing to donate directly can send donations directly to Catholic Relief Services at https://www.crs.org/donate/venezuela-earthquake, 877-435-7277, or by mail at Catholic Relief Services – Venezuela Earthquake Relief, P.O. Box 5278, Tipton, IA 52772-0517.
In solidarity with our suffering brothers and sisters in Venezuela, the Pontifical Missions Societies takes a deep connection and collaboration with the efforts of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to give and provide through prayers and financial support to those suffering and in great need in Venezuela.
