Easter’s spirit of rebirth welcomed all over LA County

Easter, the holiest day on the Christian calendar, was greeted on beaches, in parks, in cemeteries, on mountain trails, along Skid Row and, oh yes, in churches all over Los Angeles County on Sunday.

“Easter is indeed a season of rebirth and transformation,” said Rev. Michael Lewis, new pastor of Altadena Community Church, in a community of folks still trying to rebuild lives and homes after the Eaton fire. “Nothing is more central to the life of the sacred than the constant energy of love which creates new life from death, filling our lives with creativity and choice. No matter how bleak or desperate times may feel, we always have choices about how we react.”

Lewis added: “Resurrection also can be a flower that blooms amongst the rubble or a tiny moment of hope or joy or humor that surprises us with its gift,” he said, adding that people have the power to bring that gift to others who need it.”
