Easter is a time for celebration, and on April 5, Angelenos can honor the holiday with a blend of long-standing traditions, elevated dining experiences and community-focused service. Whether it is grabbing brunch with the family or blessing your furry pals, Downtown LA offers several ways to recognize the holiday.
Bless Your Animals
Since its founding in 1930, Olvera Street has celebrated the historic practice of the Blessing of the Animals. The blessing welcomes all animals, from cats and dogs to rabbits and gerbils. The celebration is always scheduled for the Saturday before Easter Sunday, and celebration is from noon to 4 p.m. with the blessing from 2 to 3 p.m. Archbishop Jose Gomez will offer the blessing to the animals. The line to receive blessings begins at 1 p.m. and will be in front of the Pico House.
Though the blessing is rooted in Catholic tradition, an individual does not have to practice the faith to celebrate the Blessing of the Animals at Olvera Street. The event is free for all.
