Knights of Columbus Named Recipient of OneLife LA 2026 Service Grant

–Celebration of the beauty and dignity of every human life returns to Downtown L.A. January 24–

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Office of Life, Justice and Peace announced today that the Knights of Columbus will receive the Dr. Tirso del Junco Grant at the 12th annual OneLife LA. The celebration on Saturday, January 24 will unite thousands at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles for a day of inspiring testimonials, live performances and a “Walk for Life” through the streets of downtown sharing the public witness to the value of human life.

Since 2020, OneLife LA has awarded a $10,000 grant to a community partner that reflects the mission and vision that Archbishop José H. Gomez has established for the annual celebration: “every life is precious and must be loved and protected, from conception until natural death – as children of God made in his image, every person has a sanctity and dignity that cannot be diminished.”

The $10,000 Dr. Tirso del Junco Grant will support the Knights of Columbus in their continued efforts to uphold the dignity of every human life and promote charitable initiatives within the community. In Los Angeles, the Knights focus on local initiatives that strengthen the Catholic community and promote charitable works. The organization also emphasizes spiritual growth among its members, encouraging them to deepen their faith and share it with their families.

“The Knights of Columbus exemplify service rooted in faith and respect for the dignity of every person,” said Isaac Cuevas, Senior Director of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Office of Life, Justice and Peace. “Their work strengthens families, supports those in need, and builds a culture that honors life at every stage.”

The Knights provide members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families, and young people. The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization, with over 1.7 million members worldwide.

OneLife LA has teamed up with dozens of community partners, including the Knights of Columbus, to put its mission into action by encouraging attendees to get involved in community activities and sign up for service projects such as feeding the homeless, finding families for foster children, supporting pregnant women, and visiting the elderly. This commitment to service ensures that participants view this event not only as a destination, but as a call to build up their communities. Community partners include Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 40 Days for Life, Net Ministries, Sofesa, Sisters Poor of Jesus Christ, Care for Creation, Options United, Depaul USA, Program for Tortured Victims, Order of Malta and Catholic Charities Los Angeles, among others.

OneLife LA is an annual event dedicated to uniting communities and inspiring action through a joyful celebration of the beauty and dignity of every human life, from conception to natural death. More than a walk, OneLife LA is a public witness of hope, compassion, and solidarity. Each year, thousands gather in downtown Los Angeles to proclaim a simple yet powerful truth: every life is precious.

The celebration on January 24 will begin at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral with life-affirming testimonies and performances, and at 3 p.m. all will take to the streets of downtown L.A. for a “Walk for Life” followed by the Requiem Mass for the Unborn at 5 p.m. at the Cathedral.

The celebration will be preceded by the annual OneLife LA Holy Hour on Friday, January 23 from 7-8 p.m. at Christ the King Church in Los Angeles to pray for the dignity of all human life and prepare hearts for the celebration on Saturday.
