Close to 3,000 faithful pilgrims from all over the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, comprised of Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, united in prayer and song as they processed for 2-miles at the “Pasadena Eucharistic Revival” on Saturday May 17, 2025. The procession was organized by 10 Pasadena area parishes as part of the global Church’s Jubilee Year of Hope 2025. The pilgrimage led by Archbishop José H. Gomez began at St. Philip the Apostle Church with a 5:00 p.m. Mass. The faithful were guided by the Blessed Sacrament, Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist, to a Benediction station at Pasadena City Hall and a Final Benediction at St. Andrew Catholic Church.
“It was beautiful to see people from all over the Archdiocese praying together with love for our Lord. The Altadena and Pasadena communities, who have experienced such devastation from the fires came together in big numbers as a sign of healing and hope. Jesus Christ’s loving presence was there for all to witness,” said Ann Sanders, Member of the Steering Committee.
The event was in hopeful anticipation and prayerful preparation for the National Eucharistic Procession, which began on May 18, 2025, from Indianapolis the location of last year’s National Eucharistic Congress to Los Angeles. During last year’s 10th National Eucharistic Congress (NEC), where approximately 60,000 Catholics gathered for a five-day mega celebration of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, organizers announced a second national pilgrimage would take place in 2025 from Indianapolis to Los Angeles on the Feast of Corpus Christi on June 22. Last year’s NEC was the culmination of the Eucharistic Pilgrimage which was organized into four routes traveling through the country’s western, southern, eastern, and midwestern regions ending in Indianapolis in time for the start of the Congress on July 17, 2024. Pope Francis had designated the 2025 Jubilee Year as a time for Catholics throughout the world to renew as “Pilgrims of Hope.” The global Catholic Church celebrates a jubilee, or holy year, at least every 25 years as a time of prayer, pilgrimage, and pardon.
