Classes were held remotely Wednesday at Junipero Serra High School in Gardena after a fire by the school football field damaged a press box, bleachers and a portion of the athletic building.
Firefighters responded to the blaze Wednesday at 5:35 a.m. on 14830 Van Ness Avenue and successfully knocked down the fire at 6:33 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire spokesperson Fred Fielding said. No injuries were reported and the source and cause of the fire remained under investigation.
The fire spread to the stand area and damaged a press box and bleachers, as well as part of an athletic building under the bleachers including a girl’s locker room and athletic training room, Archdiocese of Los Angeles spokesperson Yannina Diaz said.
