Dec 1

Wednesday of the First Week of Advent

All Good Gifts

Our God is a God of abundance, and today’s Scripture readings remind us of that in dramatic fashion. In the first reading from Isaiah, we can almost taste the “feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines.” And then, in the Gospel, we can imagine ourselves among the hungry crowd, suddenly fed until we are full, with leftovers overflowing the baskets. A priest once said that our problem is not that we ask God for too much but that we ask for too little. Nothing is impossible with God. Go to Him today with your greatest hopes, your deepest needs, your pie-in-the-sky dreams, and ask for God’s help. While we don’t always get what we want, God always provides exactly what we need.
