A listening heart

March 9, 2021 | Jenny Jackson

“A listening heart is willing to be vulnerable and humble.”

Most of my conversations lately have started with a “It’s been a year already!”

Yes, we have already started another year, another Lent. Another opportunity that God continues to reach out to remind us of his abundant love, no matter what we are experiencing in life. We are given the opportunity to reflect more deeply on what that means. Over the next 40 days God is asking us to sit still and listen.

As you reflect this season, where has God called you to sit still and listen? Maybe it would be easier to go into an actual desert with no cell service and a Bible. But, God meets us in our noisy world. He wants nothing more than for us to feel His unconditional love and help others experience it too. We cannot do this unless we listen to the needs of our brothers and sisters.

A listening heart is willing to be vulnerable and humble. It must know when to speak and when to allow for sacred silence. A listening heart is ready to learn from the good teacher, Jesus Christ.

As Katie mentioned in her reflection a couple weeks ago, let’s take this time to prepare ourselves for God’s Grace’s. Challenge yourself to do something this Lent that helps you learn about the God who loves you.

May this Lent be an opportunity to grow your listening heart and fall even more in love with Jesus who walks with you.

Here’s a calendar that you can follow either by yourself or with family and friends. Pray for a listening heart. Come, Holy Spirit.
