Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Rome

The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican

Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue is the central office of the Catholic Church for promoting interreligious dialogue in accordance with the spirit of the Second Vatican Council, in particular the declaration Nostra Aetate. It has the following responsibilities: 1) to promote mutual understanding, respect and collaboration between Catholics and the followers of other religious traditions; 2) to encourage the study of religions; and 3) to promote the formation of persons dedicated to dialogue.

Please note: The Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue does not have responsibility for Christian-Jewish relations.  These are the competence of the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews, which comes under the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity.

The Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue publishes various materials on interreligious dialogue. The Pro Dialogo Bulletin is published regularly and includes documents of the Holy Father and the Magisterium, articles from experts and information on the activities in dialogue around the world.

The Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue website provides information, documents, and excerpts from the Pope and the Pro Dialogo Bulletin for downloading.
