Day 9
Mary, Mother of Hope
“When we call Mary the Mother of Hope, we speak of the Hope of God – hope in Jesus Christ. The titles are interchangeable you see, Jesus is hope therefore, Mary is the Mother of Hope incarnate in our world.”
Claudia Avila is the Director of Evangelization at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Downtown Los Angeles. She serves the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and surrounding dioceses as a frequent retreat leader, and as a speaker and instructor for adult formation programs. As the Vice Moderator for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Pastoral Council and the Moderator for the Our Lady of the Angels Region Pastoral Council she offers consultation on various topics affecting the local community. She is also a consultant for Commonweal Magazine, the oldest independent lay edited Catholic journal of opinion in the United States. Claudia was born and raised in Fontana, California daughter to immigrant parents from Aguascalientes, Mexico. She has a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Education Studies from UCLA and a M.A. in Pastoral Theology from Loyola Marymount University. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California with her loving husband, Robert and their Pomeranian, Blaze.
