I have decided to declare Friday, 27 October, a day of fasting, penance and prayer for #peace. I invite the various Christian confessions, members of other religious, and all who hold the cause of peace in the world at heart to participate.

Our Catholic community of faith in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles has been praying for peace in the Holy Land.
The impact of war and violence is felt in our hearts and in our communities. Please know that we are in communication with law enforcement who are monitoring the possible impacts on our communities in the Archdiocese related to increased threats of violence worldwide. We have been informed that there are no current threats to our parishes, schools, and ministries.
The safety and well-being of all in our communities is always a priority, so let us continue to follow our safety protocols as we serve and support our fellow brothers and sisters during these challenging times.
Archbishop José H. Gomez has called on each of us to “open our hearts in special way” and pray for peace and the end of violence in the Holy Land.
Let us continue to unite in prayer by joining our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land and around the world to answer the call of the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem and all the Ordinaries of the Holy Land for a day of fasting, abstinence, and prayer on October 17.
As we celebrate the anniversary of the final apparition of Our Lady of Fatima today, let us pray for our Blessed Mother’s intercession that she may continue to watch over us and keep all God’s children, especially our brothers and sisters facing the violence of war, under the mantle of her protection.
May the Lord bless all of you and your families.
