The Interreligious Council of Southern California (ICSoCal) is a unique model of interreligious cooperation and collaboration made possible by the rich and diverse population of the region. Founded in 1969, ICSoCal consists of official representatives from the Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, and Baha’i faith traditions. ICSoCal’s mission is to promote religious pluralism, diversity and collaboration in Southern California. ICSoCal was entrusted by the City of Los Angeles with coordinating religious services for the world’s athletes participating in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is a founding member of the Council. Each member religion is entitled to four official delegates. For the Archdiocese, these appointments are made by the Archdiocesan Ecumenical and Interreligious Officer, Rt. Rev. Alexei Smith. If interested in participating, please contact Father Alexei at frarsmith@la-archdiocese.org. ICSoCal public events are open to everyone.
