Social and Emotional Professional Development! Yesterday our teachers ????????‍???? ????‍???? attended the first day of an on campus PD focusing on social and emotional needs of our students. Learning different strategies that will help students cope with stress during distance learning and when we get to in-person instruction. They also learned how to create activities that will help teach students empathy and different ways to remind our students that we are all connected through having similar core values. We look forward to sharing what they learned with our school community once school begins on Monday, August 24th! Be kind! What makes a house a home? Who you share it with! ???? Community-building is one of the most important parts of life at Harvest Home, and with this new 18-bedroom expansion, our community is about to get a whole lot bigger. It’s going to need more space for laughing, learning and relaxing. ???? Enter the Ray and Anna Romano Residential Life Community Room. Made possible by the generous donors it’s named after, this space upstairs in the new house will come to life with classes and play time with little ones, transforming into a safe space where our residents can learn and unwind with one another! ???? Well things keep on changing. We are now celebrating mass outside in the school pavilion. We are so blessed to have the shaded covering in the pavilion. This was built by our own parishioner. The first week of masses outside have gone extremely well. We all miss being in our beautiful Church building, but God provides for us always. Let us choose to stay positive. Our team of volunteers are working very hard to make sure everything is going smoothly. When you see them thank them for all of their hard work. A special thank you to Ray Emnace our volunteer coordinator. Please keep Ray in your prayers this week as he goes on his retreat before he can be ordained a Deacon in August. God willing he will be ordained a deacon August 22nd. Please keep Ray, his wife Sandra, and their classmates in your prayers please.

We’re sharing this story for a fellow community member: “Juanito has been working at the commerce area for over 20 years. Rain or shine he is always at the commerce plaza. He makes a living by selling candy and also by picking up and delivering lunch for the workers at the plaza. Workers provide Tip money for his deliveries. It can be $1 Tip and he won’t complain at all. He’s the most humble and hard working man I know. He doesn’t let his wheelchair stop him from working. He’s currently looking into purchasing a electric wheelchair, due to one of his arms is slowly giving up on him. But he can’t afford to buy one. Please help me raise money for his wheelchair and other needs. He has no family members in the U.S but everyone who knows him loves him like a family member. If you have the means, please consider donating to this page or spreading the word! As we build stairs into our church, I ask myself what do they mean? Am I climbing the right stairs in my life. What about the stairs growing justice, peace and love in and through my family? During these days am I reflecting on my spiritual journey? Who or what is the handrail that’s gives me security where I know that if I need a little extra help negotiating the climb I can rely on it being there. Jesus tells us “I am the way, the truth and the life” do I trust His Word”? Our church family is like staircase, when anyone of us is struggling, we are all called to be handrails. Thank you for being that for me; I hope I am that for you as well. #AMCFamily #church #stairs #growing #justice #peace #love #journey #climb #spiritualawakening @amctnt @amlifeteen @lacatholics @archbishopgomez @americanmartyrsschool @usccb @americanmartyrschurch @familiesinfaith @americanmartyrspreschool

As Fr. Marlon began his homily, he asked everyone to do one thing: “I know you’re all wearing your masks, but I want everyone to smile. Ok, thank you.” At that very moment, this simple request connected every person gathered in such a profound way. Especially in these times of uncertainty and constant change, let us not forget the great impact of sharing this simple gift with everyone we encounter, at church, at work, at home, in line at the grocery store or drive thru, or wherever we may be. “Every time you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.” (St. Mother Teresa) #holyfamilyglendale #mass #sunday #community #gather #courtyardofcharity #shareyourgift #smile #thanksfrmarlon

Even during these crazy times, our Donors have been continuing to reach out and show their support and, for that, we are EXTREMELY grateful! A few of our students made these special messages for you all before the school year came to a close and what better time than now to share? Even during these uncertain times, Dolores Mission has remained hopeful and wants to continue serving as a beacon of hope for families and students throughout Boyle Heights and East LA. Without the support of our friends, our work would be much more difficult! Thank you for your belief in our children and community! Love, DMS

Adversity is not uncommon within our community and, whenever we are presented with challenges, we adapt and reconfigure ourselves to best meet these difficulties. Although our school year has come to a close, we are constantly looking forward and trying to address the current needs for our students and their families while priming ourselves for what may come. The Best way to change someone’s heart is through a broad and inclusive educational experience that expands our thinking and our understanding of the world. Most importantly is to experience humanity amongst those we may see as “other” from our selves. When we experience that humanity, we become “One.” Jesuit education sparks that change because it rests within an experience of God’s undonciditonal love. That love is powerful and transformative and that love has the power to alter people’s perceptions of others, perceptions of ourselves, and perceptions of how we should live in the world. Those profound changes are the roots of true justice and the beginning of peace. The Jesuit education continues to be relevant and necessary, as a force for the good of all people in our world. We hope these message from our students find you well during these times. #whydms #doloresmissionschool #doloresmissionchurch #lacatholics #boyleheights

Our lives are all about connections. Today was a joyous day for so many. We had our first daily Mass. It felt like a surge of Easter in our souls. We followed all of the guidelines to keep us safe. Masks could not block joy. It is true that our eyes are the windows of our souls. The Holy Spirit was forging us into a living Eucharist as we celebrated Mass together. Now our challenge is to make Christ more evident in what we say and do. Jesus we praise you and ask that you touch the wounds in our country and heal us into peace and justice. #AMCSummerChurch #community #safety #DailyMass #communion #Eucharist #souls #joy #heal #peace #justice @amctnt @amlifeteen @americanmartyrsstudio @americanmartyrsschool @lacatholics @usccb @archbishopgomez @americanmartyrschurch

Today, for the first time since March 15th, we celebrate Masses with our church open to the people. And, while we limit the size of the congregation to 100 for safety, it is wonderful to see these (mask covered) smiling faces. This also marks the first Mass that the St. Mel Social Media Team has not attended after livestreaming over 80 consecutive Masses and services. We want to say a heartfelt and sincere “Thank you” to sacristan Larry Boutin who was a tremendous help through it all, to Chris Seitz for the loan of equipment that made our lives much easier and – especially – to sound expert Sunil Karanjikar. Sunil is a first-class audio engineer whose expertise, assistance and friendship during our webcasts was a genuine gift from God. We also thank our community for your support and loyalty during the last three months. Knowing you were watching and eagerly awaiting new content made it worth all the effort. We have decided to continue livestreaming one Mass a day even after the Covid-19 crisis has passed and we invite you to “stay tuned.” Thank you.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sacred Heart Academy had to pospone it’s annual Gala. Today, for the first time ever, we held our Opportunity Drawing virtually – live streaming on our SHA Facebook page. Many thanks to all our families, parishioners and friends who were able to buy tickets. Thanks also to the folks behind the scenes: Ruby Barr, Maria Downey, Jim Herries, Patty Holohan, Angie Misenheimer, Ana Moreno, Leanne Noble and Mat Troy. When the elimination drawing got down to the last 5 tickets, the families were called and all confirmed that they’d like to spilt the winning funds evenly. We are very excited to announce the 5 winners who each received 20% of the winnings: Ticket #63 Holguin family Tickets #70 Barich family Ticket #309 Good family Ticket #311 Dugas family Ticket #390 Barich family Thank you, one and all! Congratulations to our 2020-21 Student Council officers! We had a Virtual Installation Ceremony this year to honor our outgoing student leaders and offer a blessing for our incoming officers. ASB President Rory Burke ’20 inspired every student to recognize their own leadership roles at #500Bellefontaine: “We’re all leaders, from the classroom to the court, to the stage and beyond,” she said. “It’s the initiative to make difference, which is something we as Mayfield girls do *pretty* well.” Please join us in a huge cheer of gratitude for our amazing 2019-20 Student Council and a rousing welcome for our new student leaders. ❤️????????(Go to https://bit.ly/ASB-Installation to watch the full video created by editor extraordinaire Karissa Ho ’21.)

Alexandria Sorenson ’21 is working on a Girl Scout Gold Award project called Awareness to the First Aid Needs of the Homeless, which aims to shed light about the lack of first aid supplies available to the homeless population. Alexandria says, “I plan to change this by informing the public through a video and website I have created and through various collection drives in the community for materials to create first aid kits.” The first aid kits will be donated to the JWCH Wesley Health Center in Los Angeles to distribute to their clients. Without insurance coverage and housing, a small way to help them is by giving them access to first aid supplies and educating them on the ways to deal with small injuries to prevent them from becoming catastrophic life events. For more information, to get involved, or to donate to the project, please visit the Alexandria’s project website— link in bio! #flintridgesacredheart #tologs❤️to❤️
