Description
Speech and Debate Coach for the 2024-2025 Speech and Debate tournament season (September through April). The role of Pomona Catholic’s speech and debate program is to help motivate students academically and to hone and practice reading, writing, speaking, and thinking skills. We teach students healthy, positive life skills in a fun, competitive, and positive environment. Applicants must be able to support these ideas while providing strong leadership and commitment to Pomona Catholilc’s students. This is a stipend position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Run Speech and Debate practice sessions in coordination with the Speech and Debate class. • Instruct students, teaching basic skills involved in speech and debate competition.
- Ensure the safety and security of the team before, during, and after tournaments.
- Communicate with the Vice Principal on progress/status/issues related to individuals/team.
- Represent Pomona Catholic at tournaments.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to the student population served at Pomona Catholic.
- At least two years of experience coaching speech and debate at the high school level.
- Strong technical knowledge of skills and strategies and the ability to teach these skills to students.
- Demonstrated leadership and organization skills.
- Able to work independently and in partnership with others.
- Able to serve as a positive role model for students and a commitment to holding all students and adults associated with the program to the same standards.
- Valid California Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and proof of insurance
- California Department of Justice and federal fingerprint clearances
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
