Description
The Saturday Band Instructor is a music educator who teaches a music enrichment class for elementary and middle school students on Saturday mornings at Notre Dame High School. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, enthusiastic, creative teacher who has experience teaching in an elementary and/or middle school setting. The Instructor will prepare students for the annual Christmas Program in December and a concert in Spring. The Saturday Band Instructor reports to the Band Director, the Vice Principal of Student Life, and the Principal. The nine month part-time position requires working on Saturday mornings from 8:30am-11:00am from Late August thru May. The stipend for this position is $4,000. The average time to pay ratio would be around $40 an hour.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Prepare appropriate weekly music instructional plans including objectives, planned activities, assessments and resources, incorporating classroom technology to enhance instruction.
- Include a variety of musical forms, and appreciation for music from diverse cultures.
- Works with local Catholic and Public Elementary and Middle schools programs to recruit students for Saturday Band Program.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, parents and band staff.
- Effectively manage classroom to provide a positive classroom environment conducive to learning,
- Works with the Band Director and administration so that content on the school website and other social media is of the best quality and effective for the promotion of the program and the School.
- You will be part of a 2 person team. We have a Percussion instructor. Woodwinds and Brass instruction are your primary responsibilities.
Requirements
- B. A. in Music Education or related field, M.A. in Music Education or related field preferred.
- Willingness to work on Saturday mornings.
- The applicant should be supportive of the school’s mission and Church teachings (practicing Catholic and/or prior Catholic school experience preferable).
- Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise elementary and middle school band.
- The applicant must be able to communicate regularly and effectively with parents.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
