Marymount is an Independent, Catholic all-girls high school that fosters confidence, joy, leadership, and a sense of greater purpose in each student. Established in 1923 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), Marymount High School shares the tradition of an international network of schools including sister schools in New York, Europe, and South America. Marymount is located in Westwood/Bel Air, just north of UCLA in Los Angeles.

Job Summary:
The ideal Religious Studies candidate will be a part of Marymount’s Religious Studies Department for the duration of a Leave of Absence. The Leave of Absence is expected to last 8 weeks, but flexibility is required, as dates and needs may change. She/he will teach an academically rigorous program while helping students establish a deep personal spirituality and connection to the wider Marymount community. She/he will embrace the goals of an RSHM school and charism, promoting the mission “that all may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10), in the context of Religious Studies instruction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Teach four sections of Religious Studies classes
• Ability to teach and experience with materials specifically related to Scripture, Catholic Ethics/Morality at the 11th grade level
• Emphasis on Community-Building and a focus on understanding and embracing the mission of the RSHM
• Serve as grade level Advisor (bi-weekly meetings with 10-15 students)
• Work collaboratively within curriculum teams to plan grade-level curriculum
• Incorporate Service hours and Service Learning Projects into curriculum
• Awareness of, comfort with, and ability to adapt to and be inclusive of the religiously diverse populations to which students identify
• Regularly integrate technology into teaching methods
• Lifelong learner committed to pursuing innovative best practices in the classroom setting, as well as an investment in staying informed about current theological trends both nationally and globally
• Assist as needed with other duties and department projects as assigned

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills & Abilities:
• Bachelor or Master’s degree in Theology; Certification or Masters in Education preferred
• Preferred 3-5 years of experience, preferably teaching at the high school level
• Be a practicing Catholic who is eager to model an active faith life for students
• Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
• Must be a self-starter, extremely detail-oriented, highly organized, with a growth mindset and commitment to building inclusive communities of belonging
• Must be comfortable with Microsoft Office products
• Knowledge of Google Apps (especially Google Classroom, Drives, and Slides)

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
