Description
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Catholic elementary school who fosters its scholars to be critical thinkers, academic achievers, responsible citizens, and effective communicators who serve. ABVM is currently seeking an individual to serve as the Part-Time Art Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This position will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art. The ideal candidate will promote our school’s mission to prepare students to achieve their greatest potential in a nurturing and Christ-centered community.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history,
- Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
- Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
- Understand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting, monoprinting
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
- Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
- Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
- Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare grades
- Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Principal
Requirements
– Experience working with elementary aged students
– Bachelors Degree or higher in Fine Arts
– Current CA teaching credential or progress thereof
– Minimum of two years teaching experience preferred
– Ability to teach using technology

Wage Range: $25 – $35/hour; Compensation commensurate with level of experience, relevant professional certifications, and/or degrees earned.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
