Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled music teacher to join our school community and lead our music program for students from TK to 8th grade. This full-time position involves teaching music twice a week, developing a comprehensive music curriculum, directing choir and student-led band performances, and providing instructional support and supervision as needed.

Responsibilities:

1. Curriculum Development:
– Develop a sequential music curriculum that aligns with grade-level expectations and state standards, fostering musical development from TK to 8th grade.
– Incorporate diverse musical styles, genres, and cultures into the curriculum to provide students with a well-rounded musical education.
– Utilize Kodaly or Orff teaching methods to engage students in active music-making, including singing, movement, and playing instruments.

2. Instructional Delivery:
– Teach music classes twice a week to students in TK-8th grade, focusing on developing their vocal and instrumental skills.
– Provide differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs and learning styles of students.
– Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel confident to explore and express themselves through music.

3. Choir and Band Direction:
– Develop and direct a school choir and student-led band, preparing them for weekly Masses, monthly Sunday Masses and special events throughout the year (i.e. Christmas & Spring Concerts).
– Rehearse with students to refine their vocal and instrumental performances, emphasizing teamwork, discipline, and musical expression.
– Organize and coordinate performances, ensuring students have opportunities to showcase their talents both within the school community and beyond.

4. Liturgical Music:
– Lead music during liturgical celebrations, including Masses, monthly adoration & prayer services, integrating sacred music into the curriculum and performances.
– Collaborate with school staff and clergy to enhance the Catholic atmosphere of school events through music.

5. Supervision and Support:
– Provide supervision and support to students during music classes, rehearsals, and performances, ensuring their safety and well-being.
– Collaborate with classroom teachers and school administrators to integrate music into interdisciplinary projects and activities.
– Offer instructional support and guidance to colleagues, fostering a collaborative and cohesive school culture.

Requirements

– Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
– Teaching credential or certification in Music Education.
– Three years experience teaching music to elementary age students.
– Proficiency in playing and teaching a variety of musical instruments, including strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion.
– Experience developing and directing choirs and student-led bands.
– Knowledge of liturgical music and experience leading music during religious services.
– Familiarity with Kodaly or Orff teaching methods, or willingness to undergo training.
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.
– Passion for music education and a commitment to inspiring students to discover the power of music through their voices and instruments.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
