Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Groundskeeper/Facilities Manager. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the school grounds, facilities, and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities:

Grounds Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, edging, watering, fertilizing, and pruning to keep the school grounds well-groomed and aesthetically pleasing throughout the year.

Landscape Care: Plant, cultivate, and care for trees, shrubs, flowers, and other landscaping elements, ensuring that they thrive and enhance the beauty of the campus environment.

Facilities Management: Oversee the maintenance and repair of school buildings, equipment, and systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and security systems, to ensure optimal functionality and safety.

Janitorial Services: Coordinate and perform janitorial duties such as cleaning classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and common areas, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Safety and Security: Inspect facilities regularly for potential hazards, security breaches, or safety concerns, and take appropriate measures to address issues and ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair school equipment and machinery, including lawn mowers and power tools, to ensure they are in good working condition and safe to use.

Inventory Management: Manage inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment related to groundskeeping and facilities maintenance, ordering replenishments as needed and maintaining accurate records.

Event Support: Provide logistical support and set-up assistance for school events, meetings, and activities, ensuring that facilities are prepared and equipped to meet the needs of participants.

Physical Demands & Safety: Custodians are often required to lift and carry heavy objects such as furniture, equipment, and supplies. This may include lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds or more, and transporting them safely to designated areas within the school. Positions may vary including, bending, stooping, walking, standing, pushing, pulling or climbing. Custodians will be responsible for operating machinery such as floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, and power washers. This requires knowledge of equipment operation and safety procedures to prevent accidents. Custodians work with cleaning chemicals and disinfectants to maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards. They must follow proper safety protocols and use personal protective equipment to minimize exposure and ensure their own well-being. Custodial work may involve exposure to temperature variations, as they need to work both indoors and outdoors throughout the year. This requires adaptability to different environmental conditions. Custodians must have the physical stamina to perform demanding tasks over extended periods. They must see and hear on a continuous basis and communicate clearly.

Requirements

Qualifications:

-High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or vocational training in facilities management or related field preferred).
– Previous experience in groundskeeping, facilities maintenance, or a related field, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
– Knowledge of landscaping principles, horticulture practices, and grounds maintenance techniques.
– Familiarity with basic repair and maintenance tasks related to building systems, equipment, and machinery.
– Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
– Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to maintenance and repair.
– Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and manual labor in various weather conditions.
– Alignment with the mission and values of St. Cyril] and the Catholic Church.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
