Spanish Teacher (Tk – 4th)

St. Mark School is seeking a part-time Spanish instructor to teach TK-4th grade for the 2024-2025 school year. SMS takes pride in its strong academic program. Job Description:

Candidates must possess the ability to teach Spanish Language and Culture grades Tk -4th Grades. The ideal candidate must be able to provide an introductory immersive experience in the target language through Multimodal Learning (visual, auditory, reading & writing & Kinesthetic) and responsive instruction. In addition, interested candidates should demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive curricula, establish a nurturing and engaging classroom environment for all students. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrate strength in the integration of technology to enhance Spanish instruction and apply knowledge regarding best instructional practices in teaching world languages.

Job Tasks:

  • Create developmentally appropriate curricula:
  • Teach level grade content
  • Establish a supportive and engaging classroom environment in the target language for students (appropriate to each age group)
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills in both the target language and in English.
  • Incorporate Latin American & Spanish culture, religion, music, art history into their lesson planning.
  • Reads and assesses work assigned to students and inputs student grades in a timely manner.
  • Provides both formative and summative evaluations for the assigned courses (age groups) taught.
  • Structure classroom activities that will encourage students to engage in language input and output, facilitate oral language production in class and comprehension throughout other daily interactions.

Requirements

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, although applicant with a Single subject Language credential or a degree in Linguistics will also be considered. We particularly encourage applicants with knowledge of ACTFL Standards or CEFR (Common European Framework for Languages).

Preferred:

  • Preferred qualifications include a graduate degree in either Spanish, Linguistics or Second Language Acquisition. The ideal candidate must have previous experience teaching a second language and can abide by the Real Academia Española (RAE), CEFR & ACTFL standards. Applicants who are certified by the either the Instituto de Cervantes or DELE are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Be knowledgeable of various online resources/programs
  • Be able to prepare and implement lesson plans, instruct students using an effective classroom management style, monitor student progress, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate student records;
  • Perform other duties and administrative tasks per school protocol and/or administration’s request;
  • Be an active Catholic in good standing with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Additional requirements: Virtus Certified; Live Scan through ADLA; TB Neg. Test Result; Catechetical Certification (preferable)

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
