POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Worship is employed full-time to serve and minister to the whole worship and liturgical life of the Parish. The Director must be Catholic, a student of and an advocate for the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council, upholding its guiding principles, current liturgical statements and proclamations from Congregation for Divine Worship, the US Council of Catholic Bishops, as well as the vision set forth for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles by the local Ordinary.

The Director, serving with the consent of the Parish Pastor, shares in the responsibility for the ongoing liturgical catechesis and evangelization of the Community. The Director collaborates with the entire Parish Staff (Clergy and Laity, Employees and Volunteers), to promote the spiritual wellbeing of the Catholic Christian Community of St. Lawrence Martyr.

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in the performance of their work, willing to take VIRTUS training, follow guidelines of Safeguard the Children, and background clearance including fingerprinting (Live scan).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director:
• Promotes and fosters the continuing growth toward the “full, conscious, and active participation” in the liturgy as envisioned by Vatican II.
• Collaborates with the Coordinator of Liturgical Ministries to share a common liturgical vision in preparation of parish liturgies, church environment, and liturgical formation.
• Collaborates with all Parish Staff and Ministry Directors, especially in preparation for sacramental liturgies, including funerals and weddings, and parish wide community events.
• Collaborates and oversees care and maintenance of the church’s worship space, livestream, sound and A/V systems and musical instruments.
• Develops an appropriate musical repertoire for the Parish that follows a regional and national norm, lectionary-based, following the liturgical year, and blending the best of traditional and contemporary genres.

o Supervises & collaborates with the Music Director of the 5:00pm Sunday Mass ensemble
o Supervises, collaborates and assists the Children’s Choir Music Director & Assistant
o Directs the Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministry (CLW)

• Manages budgets as required.
• Maintains liturgical schedules, agendas, resources, including music library and copyright licenses required.
• Recruits, trains and forms dedicated music ministers, volunteers and employees.

Requirements

Education and Experience
• Degree(s) and/or certification in Music, Liturgical Music, Theology
• Catholic parish experience working in musical and liturgical ministry
• Experience in working with volunteers
• Management and administrative skills
• Membership in NPM or other professional music organizations

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
