Description
The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is looking for a Director for the Cathedral Children’s Chorus and Cathedral Youth Choir. These young ensembles, recently formed, provide children with an opportunity to help others to pray and to open their hearts to God, while at the same time grow in their own relationships with God and the Church. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directs the Cathedral Children’s Chorus and Cathedral Youth Choir at various liturgies and events throughout the year.
- Coordinators with Director of Liturgy and Music on scheduling for liturgies and musical selections.
- Leads one weekly rehearsal with each ensemble.
- Develops choirs capable of singing all styles of liturgical and sacred music.
- Educates the choirs in the role of music in liturgy, as well as in musical fundamentals.
- Recruits new choir members.
- Oversees and works with Cathedral Children’s Chorus Administrative Assistant.
- Works with Director of Liturgy and Music to encourage collaborative relationships between choirs.
- Is fully compliant with Archdiocesan policies and safe environment/child protection requirements.
- Successfully passes the background check.
- Working with the Cathedral Volunteer Coordinator, ensures that all Children’s Chorus parent volunteers are certified in safe environment protocols.
Requirements
- Ability to reach music and to use and teach a variety of vocal techniques to choir members.
- Understanding and working knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgies and liturgical celebrations.
- Ability to motivate young choir members.
- Commitment to working as part of a team.
- Ability to accompany on piano or organ highly desired.
- Five years of experience working with children’s voices.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
