Do you feel called to serve? The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is looking for a Director for the Cathedral English Choir, a position that offers a unique closeness to the Lord. As our Holy Father said: “By singing and praying together, in harmony, listening to one another, waiting for one another, adding your own voice and movement to those of everyone else, you help the larger community to do the same. You teach how good it is to walk and grow together.” If you have experience in choirs and sacred music and would enjoy playing an integral role in the celebration of the Eucharist at the Mother Church of the Archdiocese, we invite you to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs the English Choir at the Sunday10:00am Mass and special Liturgies throughout the year.
  • Coordinates with Director of Liturgy and Music the musical selections for each week.
  • Leads one weekly rehearsal, and additional rehearsals as needed for Special Liturgies.
  • Develops a choir capable of singing all styles of liturgical music.
  • Schedules and supervises stipend section leaders.
  • Educates the choir in the role of music in the liturgy, as well as in music fundamentals
  • In conjunction with Cathedral Volunteer Coordinator, recruits new choir members.
  • Works with Director of Liturgy and Music to encourage collaborative relationships between choirs.
  • Coordinates with Cathedral Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that all Archdiocesan safe environment protocols are followed.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music or the equivalent music education
  • Minimum two years of experience in Roman Catholic Church setting
  • Ability to read both choral and instrumental music and to use and teach a variety of vocation techniques to choir members
  • Understanding and working knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgies and liturgical celebrations.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate choir members
  • Commitment to working as part of a team
  • Ability to accompany on piano or organ highly desired

Wage Range

The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
