Brief Summary: The Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing student discipline, student health, campus safety, and maintenance of good order in the school. The ideal dean candidate is a dynamic individual responsible for guiding students in making the best decisions in line with the Lasallian Core Principles.

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Models the characteristics of a Catholic, Lasallian educator.
  • Actively supports La Salle’s Mission, Philosophy, and Core Principles.
  • Establishes and enforces procedures for the supervision and maintenance of good order in the school, including student conduct, disciplinary consequences, and student attendance.
  • Consults on a regular basis with the counseling department in the areas of student discipline, drug and alcohol abuse prevention, mental health and other student needs.
  • Chairs the Discipline Advisory Board and makes recommendations to the principal.
  • Advocates for a restorative approach to student discipline in line with the Lasallian Core Principles.
  • Liaison with the campus drug dog company. Leads all drug dog searches with the assistance of the dog handler.
  • Communicates with parents, faculty, staff, as appropriate regarding any student health, campus safety, or discipline infractions.
  • Organizes, assigns personnel and runs emergency drills – lockdown, fire, earthquake.
  • Lead liaison with the Pasadena Police Department and other emergency services agencies.
  • Lead supervisor for all dances, major athletic events, and other student events as determined by the principal.
  • Lead supervisor for all breaks, lunches, before school, and after-school supervision.
  • Assigns and monitors student parking spaces.
  • Assigns and monitors student lockers.
  • Is a member of the administrative Principal’s Council.

This is a 12-month exempt full time position. Some evenings and weekend work will be required.
Reports To: Principal
Direct Reports: Receptionist/Attendance Officer

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of school administration or similar experience.
  • Bachelors degree
  • Team player who exhibits a collegial, cooperative, and collaborative approach to school administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to work individually and exercise sound judgment in dealing with complex situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Capacity for handling confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Desire and ability to relevantly connect with and engage with high school students.
  • Able to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree.
  • Administrative experience in a Catholic high school setting.

Salary and Benefits
$85,000-$100,000/year DOE*

*The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. LSCP considers a number of factors when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training, and other department needs.
