Description
A Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of buildings and facilities such as schools.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize floors, restrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and polish surfaces.
- Empty trash and recycling containers.
- Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs.
- Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or needed repairs.
- Follow health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Secure facilities by locking doors and checking windows when required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (often preferred but not always required).
- Previous custodial or janitorial experience is a plus.
- Ability to use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and reliability.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
