Description

Bishop Garcia Diego High School seeks a talented school counselor, who will focus on the individualized, personal development of our students and strive to educate the entire person. This employee will support the school’s mission and Catholic values-based curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

● Work with Admissions to determine admission eligibility for new and transfer students
● Meet with students/parents annually to discuss academic plan
● Meet with and schedule new students/families
● Finalize and enter all student schedules
● Assist students with schedule change requests and Dual Enrollment forms
● Conduct transcript audits at end of every semester to determine if graduation requirements are being met
● Monitor grades throughout the year and notify parents every mid-qtr of any students with at risk grades for four year college eligibility and graduation requirements
● Meet with all D/F students each mid-quarter
● Meet with at risk and transfer students to track academic progress
● Meet with students on Academic Warning and Academic Probation to develop Student Success Plan
● Meet with teachers/parents as needed to discuss students’ academic progress
● Keep Principal and Director of Curriculum & Instruction aware of at-risk senior status
● Coordinate peer tutoring
● Approve SBCC or online courses upon request
● Update approved UC/CSU online course list
● Notify students/parents of grade deficiencies and how to enroll in credit recovery courses
● Work with Director of Curriculum & Instruction to write Academic Contracts for at-risk students
● Attend college admissions professional development programs
● Coordinate 9th grade college & career workshops for PSAT day
● Plan 9th grade Parent Information night in November
● Meet with 10th grade families for updating four year academic plans
● Coordinate course recommendations for students for NY schedules with all teachers
● Connect students/families with enrichment program opportunities
● Work with faculty to nominate students for various leadership opportunities
● Counsel students individually and in small groups
● Conduct classroom guidance activities
● Serve as a resource for prevention and intervention programs
● Serve as a liaison between student, parent, and networks of community support
● Assist in the referral of students and families experiencing difficulties to community agencies for specialized services
● Attend school meetings and training programs
● Engage in ongoing professional development in the area of prevention and education when appropriate
● Provide additional services as required by the supervisor

Requirements

The successful candidate must possess or acquire a Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Related Field. The successful candidate will also possess a positive attitude, excellent communication and organizational skills, with proven success working in a setting that requires collaboration and collegiality.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
