Description

St. Hilary School seeks a dynamic and engaging ENGLISH TEACHER for our middle school (grades 6-8). This is a full-time position.

The successful candidate has experience and expertise using research-based and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies to teach middle school English. The successful candidate should have a solid understanding of literacy instruction and can instruct students in reading and critically analyzing a wide variety of contemporary and classical literary fiction and nonfiction texts. Middle school ELA at St. Hilary School examines the knowledge, histories, and experiences of diverse groups of people. Therefore, a successful candidate knows how to design and implement high-interest lessons that allow students to see themselves in the curriculum, voice their own stories, and learn about perspectives that differ from their own.

In addition to teaching literary texts, the successful candidate has experience and expertise teaching on-demand and multi-step short and long form informational, creative, and argumentative writing pieces. The successful candidate can teach students to be critical consumers of information by teaching research skills, including how to evaluate the credibility of sources and information, how to examine issues through different perspectives, and how to organize and present their research using digital productivity and presentation tools.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, St. Hilary educators are involved in the life of the school, which includes leading a student advisory group; being present and participating at student activities and assemblies; attending faculty and grade-level meetings; performing supervision duties during lunch, before and/or after school; and participating in faith activities, including Masses, prayer services, staff retreats, and student retreats.
