Father’s Day

“On Father’s Day we celebrate the peculiar joys that fathers bring to life — and the overwhelming joys they know in loving us as they do.”

Father’s Day Rosary 2022

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Catholic Cemeteries & Mortuaries invite you to a special prayer of thanksgiving for Father’s Day weekend. Join us in person at all Cemeteries & Mortuaries or here for our livestream on Saturday, June 18 at 2pm.

Fatherhood is a joyful life. A father knows joy by delivering joy to others. How else can we explain dad jokes? The qualities of true manhood are the qualities of a good father. He is steady, protective, and a good provider. He works hard for the sake of his family and community. His vocation is to be like God, whom Jesus taught us to call “Our Father.” His vocation is to lay down his own life so that others might have a more abundant life.

God created all men, whether or not they’re dads, to be fatherly in their care and concern, and no man will be happy apart from these good spiritual habits. In this year dedicated to St. Joseph, it’s good to consider the life of the Holy Family’s patriarch, and the particular joys he knew, even in the midst of hardship. On Father’s Day we celebrate the peculiar joys that fathers bring to life — and the overwhelming joys they know in loving us as they do.
