Prayers of Intention for 2024 Pilgrimage Mass in Mexico City

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ community is invited to send prayers of intention to be blessed by Archbishop José H. Gomez and presented to Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Basilica or Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City during a pilgrimage Mass that Archbishop Gomez will be celebrating on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 12 p.m. local time (11 a.m. PST).

Prayer intentions can be dropped during all Mother’s Day Masses at the Chapel of the Relic of the Tilma of St. Juan Diego at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels on Sunday, May 12, and at all 11 locations of the Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries on Saturday, May 11 during the Mother’s Day Rosary at 2 p.m., https://catholiccm.org. This will be the fifth pilgrimage year —with a three-year break due to the pandemic— under the spiritual leadership of Archbishop Gomez. This is the second consecutive year that hundreds of faithful are joining parochial groups who will travel to Mexico City on different dates, most of them departing on July 4 and returning July 9, with stops at Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, home of the original tilma (or cloak) of St. Juan Diego, which holds the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that appeared in 1531. Some of the parochial groups will visit landmarks such as Teotihuacan Pyramids and Catholic parishes in Guanajuato and Puebla, among others.

For nearly 500 years, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been the symbol of hope, peace and love, uniting peoples around the world as one family of God. The Basilica or Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is the most visited Catholic pilgrimage site in the world.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles is home to the only known relic of the tilma outside of Mexico City, which was presented in early 1940’s to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles by the Archbishop of Mexico City in appreciation and friendship after Los Angeles Archbishop John J. Cantwell led an important pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in 1941.

ENVÍE SUS ORACIONES DE INTENCIÓN PARA LA MISA DE PEREGRINACIÓN DE 2024 EN LA BASÍLICA DE GUADALUPE EN LA CIUDAD DE MÉXICO

—Cientos de feligreses de ocho parroquias de la Arquidiócesis de LA se unirán al Arzobispo Gomez durante la Misa en la Basílica el 6 de julio—

Se invita a la comunidad de la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles a enviar oraciones de intención para ser bendecidas por el Arzobispo José H. Gomez y presentadas a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en la Basílica o Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en la Ciudad de México durante una Misa de peregrinación que el Arzobispo Gomez celebrará el sábado 6 de julio de 2024 a las 12 p.m. hora local (11 a.m. PST).

Las intenciones de oración se pueden depositar durante todas las Misas del Día de la Madre en la Capilla de la Reliquia de la Tilma de San Juan Diego en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles el domingo 12 de mayo, y en los 11 Cementerios y Funerarias Católicos el sábado 11 de mayo duranto el Rosario del Día de la Madre a las 2 p.m. en http://catholiccm.org. Este será el quinto año de peregrinación —con una pausa de tres años debido a la pandemia— bajo el liderazgo espiritual del Arzobispo Gomez. Este es el segundo año consecutive que cientos de fieles se unen a grupos parroquiales que viajarán a la Ciudad de México en distintas fechas, la mayoría de ellos partiendo el 4 de julio y regresando el 9 de julio, con paradas en la Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, sede de la tilma (o manto) original de San Juan Diego, que sostiene la imagen milagrosa de la Virgen de Guadalupe que apareció en 1531. Algunos de los grupos parroquiales visitarán lugares emblemáticos como las Pirámides de Teotihuacan y parroquias católicas en Guanajuato y Puebla, entre otros.

La Catedral de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles en el centro de Los Ángeles es el hogar de la única reliquia de la tilma, que se conozca, fuera de la Ciudad de México, que fue presentada a principios de la década de 1940 a la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles por el Arzobispo de la Ciudad de México en agradecimiento y amistad después de que el Arzobispo de Los Ángeles John J. Cantwell encabezara una importante peregrinación a la Basílica de Guadalupe en 1941.
