Pope Francis Names New Auxiliary Bishops of Los Angeles

–Archbishop Gomez to hold Press Conference to Present the Newly Named Auxiliary Bishops in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles at 10 a.m. TODAY–

Pope Francis today named Msgr. Albert Bahhuth, Ph.D., Father Matthew Elshoff, OFM. Cap., Father Brian Nunes and Father Slawomir Szkredka, Ph.D., S.S.D., auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The appointments were announced in Washington, D.C. at 3 a.m. PDT, by Cardinal-designate Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States.

Archbishop José H. Gomez will hold a press conference today, Tuesday, July 18, at 10 a.m., inside the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, to address the announcement and present the newly named auxiliary bishops.

“This is a day of joy for the family of God in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles,” said Archbishop Gomez. “We give thanks to God, and we thank the Holy Father for this great blessing of new bishops. Each is a man of prayer who loves Jesus and has a deep desire to share God’s love and to serve God’s people. We are praying for them, and we entrust them to the tender care of Holy Mary, our Blessed Mother.”
