Sound of Silence

If you’ve never taken any time to sit in complete silence, that first attempt can be a bit of a shock to the system. You suddenly know exactly what it means when someone says, “The silence was deafening.” But it’s silence we need if we are going to make any headway in our effort to truly listen for God’s voice amid the noise and chaos of the world around us. Can you find five or ten minutes to sit in complete silence — no phone, no TV, no radio? Just you and God. When your mind balks at that notion and throws some worry in your path, let it float on by, like a leaf being carried downstream. Just keep coming back to God again and again.
