The WCC’s Faith and Order Commission

Submit-Prayer-Intentions

The Faith and Order Commission – a study commission of the World Council of Churches – promotes Christian unity by dealing with theological questions that divide churches.  The purpose of the theological studies the Commission undertakes is “to serve the churches as they call one another to visible unity in one faith and in one Eucharistic fellowship…”. The Commission consists of 49 official representatives of churches belonging to the main historical steams of Christianity, including the Roman Catholic Church, four consultants, and one minute taker: it is a unique multilateral, global forum of ecumenical theology, dealing with questions of doctrine (Faith) and questions related to the ministerial structure of the Church (Order).

The Commission undertakes these studies so that the churches may reach sufficient agreement across their diversity and grow in mutual care and accountability. In doing so, the churches are persistent in their belief that the Church of Jesus Christ is not many “churches” but One Church.
