Join us for an evening to remember the lives of the unborn and hear encouraging testimonies of healing from men and women who have experienced loss. You are invited to share in lighting a candle in remembrance of the loss of the unborn and move forward in healing and finding peace.

Deacon Charlie Bio:

Deacon Charlie was ordained on June 10, 2017 by His Excellency Jose H. Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles. He is married to his wife Jessica of nearly 20 years and is a natural father, adoptive father, Godfather, stepfather, foster father, sponsor father, spiritual father, father-in-law and grandfather! Deacon Charlie holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications with a minor in Film Studies from Florida Atlantic University. His diaconal ministries range from evangelization, apologetics and formation to Pro Life and bereavement. He is assigned to the congregation of Saint Gerard Majella Church in the Cypress Grove neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Deacon Charlie is Vice Chairman of Catholic Answers, the world’s most respected English-language apologetics and evangelization apostolate.  He is Chairman of the National Communications Committee for the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders (C.A.L.L. – founded by Archbishops Jose Gomez & Charles Chaput).  He is Chairman of the Vida Initiative, an apostolate founded by Astrid Bennet Gutierrez (EWTN) dedicated to raising pro-life leaders from the Latino community.  He is also President of SOFESA, a non-profit organization founded by his wife in 1999 that assists homeless and low-income families in Southern California.

Deacon Charlie is the founder of the Black//Brown Collective a Los Angeles-based business accelerator focused at the intersection of emerging platforms & emerging audiences.

Jess Echeverry:

Jess Echeverry is a women and family advocate and speaker. She has survived parental divorce and alcoholism, as well as emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Her testimony includes dark times of physical and sexual violence, teenage pregnancy, years of on and off homelessness, abortion, same sex attraction and two attempts at suicide. In 1997 she met the man she would eventually marry; this man would help her create an environment of authentic love that enabled her healing journey, her relationship with Jesus Christ and her eventual forgiveness and love for her attackers. She converted to Catholicism in 2008.

Her husband Charlie is a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Together Deacon Charlie & Jess have 5 children: 2 teenage boys still at home, 2 young adults out in the world, 1 lovely soul in Heaven and 2 English Bulldogs. Jess is the founder and Executive Director of SOFESA, a 501c(3) non-profit ministry that has been serving Southern California homeless and low-income children and their families since 1999.

Micaela Darr

Micaela Darr is a wife and mother of 7 living children, and 5 she hopes to meet in Heaven. She has been married to her husband Kevin for 18 years. A former classroom teacher, she homeschools 4 of her children while managing one in Catholic high school and 2 under school age. Micaela is involved in several ministries, including writing scripture devotionals and managing the social media for Take Up & Read (https://www.takeupandread.org/) and being one of the two co-founders of the annual Fiat Conference for Catholic women. (https://www.fiatconference.com/) While she has experienced immense pain from her miscarriages, Micaela credits God’s boundless mercy for her healing.
