Description

The Youth Minister is an Archdiocesan employee who models a Catholic lifestyle of intentional discipleship. The Youth Minister assists the parish community in fulfilling its vision of calling youth to intentional discipleship by creating an environment in the Jr. High, Confirmation and Life Teen where individuals can hear Jesus’ call to be His disciple, give their lives entirely over to Jesus, and share in Jesus’ redemptive mission.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
1. To arouse in the hearts of teens, families, and parishioners a greater openness and
a greater desire to actively pursue a relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Seeks to draw people to responsible participation in the life and mission of the
Church.

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF THIS POSITION:
In a collaborative relationship with the Family Faith Formation Coordinator, the Youth Minister provides leadership for the design and implementation of the parish Confirmation and Youth experiences.

Requirements

1. Integrate the parish vision of Evangelization:
a. Study Church documents, Scripture, and resources related to Youth Ministry, evangelization, and catechesis.
b. Explain the parish vision of evangelization.
c. Explain how the vision of evangelization shapes youth ministry.
d. Assist teens and adults in understanding the parish strategies and structures as a whole.
e. Communicate and support short and long- term goals of the Parish.
f. Develop yearly goals based on parish vision of evangelization for Confirmation & Youth experiences.

2. Proclaim the Kerygma & Spiritual Growth:
a. Ensure that the proclamation of the kerygma is central to all ministry.
b, Provide ongoing opportunities for youth leaders, facilitators, core members, parents and sponsors to hear the kerygma.
c. Create and adapt resources for yearly retreats based on the kerygma.
d. Form youth leaders and small group facilitators in proclaiming the kerygma.
e Help others understand the relationship of the kerygma with catechesis.
f. Evaluate experiences to determine whether individuals are becoming disciples.
g. Assist others in understanding the journey of discipleship and how to meet individuals where they are spiritually.
h. Help others understand youth culture and how to look for “Seeds of the Word”.
i. Provide diverse opportunities for teens to encounter Jesus Christ through social, formational, emotional, and spiritual life nights, confirmation sessions, and other youth events.
j. Select relevant resources as tools for fostering discipleship.
k. Assist others in sharing their faith story and personal encounter with Jesus Christ.
I. Help others reach their full spiritual potential by transmitting the truths of the Catholic faith.

3. Encounter Jesus through the Liturgy and Sacraments:
a. Prepare individuals for encountering Jesus in the Liturgy and Sacraments.
b. Help others develop and discern positive disposition in the reception of the sacraments.
c. Provide training to others to conduct discernment interviews for sacramental readiness.
d. Prepare for Liturgies related to Confirmation and Youth in collaboration with Liturgy Committee.

4. Organize to Advance the Kingdom of God:
a. Set and communicate scheduled experiences.
b. Coordinate calendar and facilities with Administrative Assistant and Parish Office.
c. Maintain effective means to publicize experiences and events.
d. Provide resources and materials for sessions.
e. Oversee registration processes and records.
f. Provide orientation to families and interview candidates during the process.
g. Supervise the implementation of service opportunities.
h. Plan and implement retreat experiences.
i. Work within budget allotted for the operation of experiences and events.
j. Develop collaborative relationships with staff and ministry leaders.
k. Participate in staff meetings.
I. Provide a welcoming presence through Office Hours.
m. Help ensure that all individuals involved in youth related activities abide by safe environment guidelines and screening.

5. Calling forth leaders and charisms by equipping the baptized for mission:
a. Establish teams of disciple makers for youth: coordinators, core members, facilitators, retreat team, peer leaders, etc.
b. Create and explain ministerial roles.
c. Provide evangelizing and formational training to teams on an ongoing basis.
d. Interview and place individuals in appropriate areas of service based on gifts.
e. Provide Small Group training.
f. Integrate youth into the larger faith community.
g. Direct and implement planning sessions and special meetings.
h. Help others discern their charisms.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
