Description

Pomona Catholic School is accepting applications from individuals who seek a teaching position in the Theology Department for the 2024-2025 academic school year. Specific content areas: High School Theology courses. Full or Part-time position available.

Ideal applicants should be open to professional growth and committed to participating in a Catholic education and must demonstrate evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and aptitude with educational technology.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic, passionate, and well-versed educator with experience in diverse classrooms. Candidates should be team players and able to collaborate easily with colleagues. Strong organizational and class management skills needed as well as the ability to communicate regularly and effectively with all stakeholders including parents, other colleagues, and students. The successful candidate must demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of content area and be able to engage students using a wide variety of teaching strategies, updating their gradebook weekly, developing 21st century skills, and educating the whole child, mind and spirit. Candidate must be highly skilled at planning, organizing, and developing curriculum to reach the needs of all learners.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Demonstrate passion and expertise in the teaching of the Catholic faith, specifically Scripture, Morality and Church History.
  • Well-versed in multiple areas of the Catholic faith tradition.
  • Proficient in technology use and willing to incorporate it into the classroom to engage learners.
  • Willingness to differentiate learning to reach a range of student learning styles.
  • Adapt lessons for students of various faith backgrounds.
  • Instruct 4-5 full credit Theology classes each semester, assigned at the discretion of the Theology Department Chair.
  • Participate in school-wide and department meetings and professional growth opportunities.
  • Engage in the life of the school community through presence at school Masses, assemblies, rallies, class retreats, sporting events, visual and performing arts events, etc.
  • Chaperone and supervisory responsibilities during the school day and some evenings and weekends.
  • Meet with students and parents, as needed, during Flex period, before, and after school.

Requirements

  • A degree in Theology or a related field, Bachelor’s minimum, Masters preferred.
  • Experience in teaching at the high school level.
  • Credential or Religious Studies Certification from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, or willingness to obtain the certification, is required.
  • Pomona Catholic faculty are expected to be men and women of integrity and able to espouse Catholic and Pomona Catholic mission values that will set a positive example for all students. Members of the Theology Department must be practicing Catholics.
  • Ability to develop and implement an effective and engaging curriculum.
  • Ability to relate to high school students, and build positive relationships while maintaining healthy boundaries.
  • Willingness to collaborate, problem-solve, and share best practices with colleagues.
  • High-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives.
  • Familiarity and competence in technology skills, and desire to keep learning.
  • Must have excellent classroom management, communication, and organization skills.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
