Learning Support Specialist (Grades K-4)

St. Paul the Apostle School is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Specialist to provide individualized and small group academic support and enrichment to Kindergarten through fourth-grade students. You will work closely with students, teachers, parents, administration, and external service providers to develop strategies that support students’ academic progress and enhance their gifts and talents.

Learning Specialist Responsibilities:

Collaborate with teachers to identify students who need academic support or enrichment

Gather student information to assist in their academic success

Work directly with students in small groups or individually

Create Support Team Education Plans (STEP) for students with diagnosed learning differences

Meet regularly with parents and teachers to monitor student STEPs progress

Confer with teachers regarding teaching strategies for identified students

Assist teachers with tracking data to determine the effectiveness of interventions

Educate parents and teachers about learning differences and student strengths

Build supportive, trusting relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administration

Provide parents and teachers with resources to benefit students

Attend parent-teacher conferences, STEP training, professional development sessions, and other essential events

Liaise with the middle-school Learning Support Specialist


Desired qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Master’s preferred)

Multiple Subjects, or Special Education Credential

Experience teaching students in a variety of classes and age groups

Familiarity with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles STEP program and the IEP process

Familiarity with STAR Assessments or other computer adaptive testing

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and school administration
