Description

Chaminade College Preparatory seeks a dynamic, innovative, and engaging SOCIAL STUDIES and ENGLISH TEACHER with great classroom management skills for our middle school campus (grades 6-8) in Chatsworth, California. This is a full-time position.

The successful candidate has experience teaching middle school social studies, English, literature, or other Humanities-related courses. Through these courses, teachers instruct students on how to think, read, and write analytically, so a successful candidate will have strong literacy and communication skills. Both the social studies and literature courses examine the knowledge, histories, and experiences of diverse groups of people. Therefore, a successful candidate will know how to design and implement lessons that allow students to see themselves in the curriculum, voice their own stories, and learn about others.

Key Responsibilities
• Teaches five sections (combination of social studies and/or social studies and English)
• Under the supervision of the vice principals, teaches standards-based (California state and Archdiocesan) curriculum. In a timely manner, plans lessons; provides feedback and grades on assignments; maintains grades, attendance, and other school records; and communicates with students, their families, and counselors when students need support.
• Collaborates with department members and course counterpart(s) to evaluate, monitor, and update curriculum, assessment, and pacing guides under the guidance of the Department Chair(s).
• Exposes students to historical people, authors, and literature that respect students’ diverse social identities while still corresponding to Catholic Marianist values and the mission of the school.
• Integrates technology by using Schoology Learning Management System (LMS) (can provide training), Google Apps for Education, and other collaborative and productivity tools (*Note: All students use a school-issued Lenovo Thinkpad tablet daily)
• Is knowledgeable about new trends and developments in social studies and literature, instructional strategies, and assessment.

Salary and Benefits
This is a salaried/exempt from overtime position. The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience. Requirements

Qualifications
• Have a passion for teaching and love working with middle-school aged students.
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required.
• A master’s degree and/or a single-subject teaching credential in social studies, and/or English or multi-subject teaching credential with experience teaching middle school is preferred.
• Prior teaching experience, especially in a Catholic educational setting, is preferred; however, relevant experience in the field is also strongly considered.
• Is comfortable delivering instruction on campus, via remote learning, and/or in a hybrid model.
• Wants to work in a setting committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion of all school stakeholders.
• Wants to work in a setting committed to balancing teaching/learning, health, and well-being of all stakeholders.
• Participates in and attends campus life events, including supervision, lunch activities, liturgies, assemblies, etc.
