Rectory Cook

The cook performs general cooking duties in preparing food served to residents of the rectory and guests. The work involves planning menus, shopping, maintaining food inventories, cooking, serving, and post-dinner clean-up.

Hours of Work: Monday AND Friday (Specific days) 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Wage: $19.00 per hour

Duties and Responsibilities: (May perform some or all of the following tasks.)
Plan menus that are varied and made with fresh food items and ingredients. Pay attention to food allergies/sensitivities, Provide appealing, well-balanced meals for 5 to 15 residents/guests while ensuring food-handling safety procedures during all phases of food preparation.

Prevent cross-contamination issues with food while preparing meals.

Prepare lists of food items for meals and household use.

Adhere to a monthly budget for groceries and kitchen supplies.

Consult with the supervisor regarding cost overages for any groceries.

Serve meals using food safety procedures, clean dishes, pots and pans, and work area after each meal, including counters, floor, and appliances.

Prepare meals for special occasions.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Note:
-Generally busy kitchen with numerous interruptions.
-Subject to temperature changes in the kitchen created by foodservice equipment.
-Hours may be adjusted, depending on need.
-Some weekend work may be required.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
-High School diploma or equivalent.
-One to three years experience as a household cook or a cook in a commercial kitchen.
-Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral communication in English.
-Knowledge of and ability to use quantity-cooking equipment.
-Ability to interact with a variety of personalities.
-Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
-Possesses a service-oriented attitude.
-Have a valid Driver’s License and transportation.

Physical Requirements:
-Must be able to sit, stand, and walk about up to 8-hours per day.
-Must be able to frequently stoop, bend, reach, and carry up to 25 pounds.
-Must be sighted and capable of communicating.
