Description
Provide accompaniment for the Sunday 12:00pm English mass. Special liturgies to be separately negotiated.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Accompanying music ministry with piano for Sunday 12:00pm Mass, during the year. Special liturgies will be negotiated separately. Vacations to be agreed-upon.
- Attend rehearsals before mass at 10-12pm. Optional rehearsals after mass from 1pm-3pm.
- Cantoring is not required but is a plus.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required, candidate must be qualified with experience.
- Possess at least two (2) years’ experience as church accompanist/choir director/cantor/song leader/musician for Catholic liturgical services.
- Musical audition with SFKCC Music Ministry
- Audition will be conducted prior to award.
- Demonstrate high level of competence on piano and singing is a plus.
- Demonstrate high level of competence in playing both traditional and contemporary music as well as playing desired liturgical settings for regular and special Masses.
- Video file of musical audition will be recorded during musical audition for further evaluation following the interview in order to aid in awarding the position.
- Identify by interview key components of the applicant’s understanding of the liturgical worship experience – especially with regard to forms of music chosen, i.e., “high church” as opposed to “contemporary” worship forms, Psalm settings, introits, lay participation in choirs and music accompaniment options. Of key significance is the applicant’s opinion of how the music portion of Sunday and weekday Masses are made relatable to active duty families attending.
- Possess a working knowledge of current Catholic liturgy and guidelines as well as an understanding of how to support liturgical rites with music, song, and assembly leadership. Have knowledge of Catholic hymnody and psalmody
- Play Piano proficiently. Possess the ability to lead an assembly in song, and to read music.
- Possess an education level to include, at a minimum, a high school diploma. Higher degree preferred including music degree, music studies, and/or liturgical studies.
- Sensitivity to the wide variety of faith expressions within the military community (capability of working in a pluralistic environment). Must be able to demonstrate. Dignity and respect are paramount.
- Desire and ability to work with diverse groups of people, sometimes in a high stress environment.

- Virtus compliance is required as there are youth in the music ministry

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
