Robotics and Rocketry form a year-long program that supports STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) education through hands-on experiences. The first semester focuses on the VEX robotics program and culminates with team participation in various VEX sanctioned competitions. The second half of the year focuses on the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) competition. Students will design, build, and launch rockets with the goal of achieving success in the TARC competition.
The class is designed to empower student leadership, promote collaboration, and continue building on the STEAM curriculum offered by Notre Dame Academy. The Innovation Lab will serve as the hub for both teams. Although the classes take place on Friday afternoons, competitions take place on weekends, and occasional mid-week sessions could be helpful when students are preparing for competitions. Therefore, the ideal candidate would be a teacher with the flexibility to add this to your plate, an engineering professional able to commit to this class, or an engineering graduate student wishing to put your studies into practice by mentoring younger STEAM scholars.
