Description
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is seeking an experienced organist to join our Music Ministry. In this role the organist will be responsible for serving at our 10:00 am Sunday Liturgy as accompanist for our adult choir and cantor, under the direction of our choir director. The organist will also accompany at our weekly choir rehearsals.
Note: This position may grow to incorporate additional Masses/services as part of the regular schedule, if interested.
- The organist serves at Mass by assisting the choir director, choir, congregation, and cantor to provide a foundation for singing and prayerful liturgical worship.
- Accompany for a weekly evening rehearsal and Sunday 10:00 Mass, including Sunday Pre-Mass rehearsal. Also available to accompany at extra rehearsals, if needed for Solemnities, Holy Days, and Concerts.
- Prepare and play preludes, postludes, and instrumental music for Sunday Masses, weddings, funerals, and other Liturgies.
- Accompany/provide music for weddings and funerals.
- Flexibility in adapting to various forms of liturgical music.
- Collaborate with the music director, choir director, cantors, instrumentalists, clergy, and parish staff.
- Substitute at other Masses as needed, if available.
- Commitment to the ministry and mission of the Church.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- A degree in music with keyboard emphasis required.
- Five years employment as a church organist.
- Well-skilled in organ playing and accompanying; excellent sight-reading skills; ability to improvise, mindful and sensitive of the various parts of the liturgy.
- Ability to accompany on piano.
- Well-formed and knowledgeable in the liturgical musical practice of the Roman Catholic Liturgy; familiarity with Catholic liturgical music.
- A sincere desire to serve the people of God.
Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
