Description
St. Mark School, located in the vibrant city of Venice California, is seeking a music teacher for a full-time salaried position starting in August 2023. Saint Mark School is a non-profit, non-discriminatory school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, providing Catholic education according to the standards established by the Archdiocese and certified by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA).
The desired candidate would be committed to promoting a safe, structured, learning environment during classroom instruction enhancing creativity and artistic expression through music. St. Mark School has a designated, fully equipped music room with a variety of instruments appropriate for each grade level.
Requirements
Required Qualifications and Responsibilities
BA/BS in music
Ability to teach general music classes to grades TK – 8th
Capable of implementing Orff and Kodály-based approach to teaching
Fluency in GarageBand DAW – run the middle school Music Tech Lab, which includes one-to-one student gear such as midi keyboards, studio headphones, and iPads.
Leading a liturgical choir
Plan liturgical music for weekly and monthly Masses
Design and provide a Worship Aid to encourage student participation
Be knowledgeable of Roman Catholic Liturgy and encourage congregational singing during liturgies; have an ongoing cantor training program
Direct Christmas and Spring performances, supported by parent committee, volunteers, and other visual arts professionals
Establish and maintain effective communication with parents, students and school staff
Safeguarding children, maintaining Virtus, TB testing, fingerprinting and other guidelines for working with minors required.
Desired Qualifications
Be a practicing Catholic that fosters the values promoted in a Catholic institution through faith-based teaching practices and community interactions
Proficiency in piano and/or guitar
Master’s Degree
Successful Catholic School teaching experience

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
