La Reina High School & Middle School is a Catholic college preparatory school for young women in the tradition, vision, and educational principles of the Sisters of Notre Dame. La Reina is currently seeking a Middle School Mock Trial Coach. Primarily, this position will oversee the La Reina Middle School Mock Trial program which includes the Middle School team, and all corresponding programs related to Mock Trial. Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following: training students in individual and large-group practices at 7th period and after school; traveling with students to tournaments and local, state, and national competitions; and coordinating the overall Mock Trial program of La Reina High School & Middle School.
- Supervise students and volunteer coaches during practices and competitions.
- Coordinate, schedule, and lead practices, scrimmages, competitions.
- Prepare appropriate materials and lessons for corresponding practices and competitions.
- Promote greater understanding of and appreciation for the law, court procedures, and the American judicial system.
- Develop students’ life skills such as critical thinking, reading, speaking, and advocacy.
- Heighten students’ appreciation for the principle of equal justice for all.
This position will work part time primarily during the academic year (10 months), understanding that hours increase according to tournament and County, State, and National competition. Work hours including daytime, evenings, and weekends, and correspond to tournament and competition schedules. All campus and off-site work with Mock Trial must be coordinated with appropriate staff at La Reina High School & Middle School.
Coach must demonstrate excellence in teaching and a willingness to engage students in scholarship, research and creative work; as well as hold a minimum of B.A. (Master’s preferred), and have past experience with coaching mock trial helpful.
